Laura Koch, Intern Clinician

Being human can be hard sometimes. In the busyness of life—holding everything together, caring for others, or navigating change—it can be easy to lose sight of ourselves. Whatever challenges you’re facing right now, you don’t have to figure them out alone.

I believe people are incredibly resilient, even when they don’t feel strong or sure of themselves. Sometimes we just need a safe place to slow down, make sense of things, and reconnect with the parts of ourselves that have been pushed aside.

As a counselling intern completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, I bring my authentic self into the counselling room: warm, down-to-earth, and relational. I’m also known for the laughter I share with my clients to ease sticky spots and bring a little lightness to the heavy days. I approach my work from an attachment and emotion-focused perspective, incorporating a systemic lens because we all exist within systems that affect us. I’m trained in Observed and Experiential Integration Therapy (OEI), and sand tray/right hemispheric processing.

As a parent and former birth doula, I have an interest in working with the perinatal community, parents, women navigating change—whether relational, role-related, or hormonal—and anyone grappling with self-confidence, feeling stuck, or uncertainty about their next steps.

As a rowing coach, I regularly witness how important support can be when things feel unsteady. I'm also a musician and have spent several years using music and songwriting as a therapeutic tool with school-aged children.

Outside of work, you might find me rowing, hiking, writing songs, walking my badly trained dogs, or spending time in nature. I enjoy morning swims, weightlifting, and tucking into bed early. I love laughing with people, hanging out in the kitchen with my family, and stealing quiet moments on my back deck with my binoculars and nerdy birding app.
